Default Interchangeable dash switches?

I know that the binnacle switches are interchangeable (in that they will mount in the same place as any other) but are the binnacle switches interchangeable with the switches in the dash, the ones for the hazard lights, defrost, hill decent, etc?

before you say "no Dumbass, they are different shapes" , I realize the face plates are different, but after cruising ebay, I would seem that the actual switch is the same, leading me to believe that the face plates can be swapped.

I ask because I'm planning for off road lights, on board compressor, and a few more accessories, and was planning on using factory cruise control activation switches. However, I can buy hazard light switches for much cheaper and if I can just use blank face plates with my own design painted on the front then I can spend like $20 on switches and not $100.

They are keyed differently. And the connectors are also keyed. You can make it work with a razor blade, or you could do what I did.

Do they secure well if the keys are modified? I assume you mean remove them?

Thanks for that sight, there's a bunch of cool stuff on there. I. Going to stick with oem switches as I want it to look OEM and I like my ash tray for storage.

The path of least resistance is to get the D1 switch holder and swap it out for the ashtray, then run D1 fog light switches in the new location.

You can change the faceplate on the cruise control switch to get a latching switch and add aux lights to thrndash binnacle too. There's a particularly good writeup at discovery2.co.uk on both methods. I have a lot of extra lights and gizmos so have 4 additional switches wired to the dash utilizing stock switches.

lol. I used my existing ash tray and coin holders for my swithess. rather than dishing out 50 bux for something I already have. a small bit of measuring, some dremel work and some jb weld I managed to fit three new switches in each area all I had to do was dremeel out the hole on the faceplates to squarea hole big enough for the switch housings to fit in side by side. sand down the sides of the rocker switches on each switch till the were able to switch freely I sed a dime between each switch as a shim while doing so and once all fit hunky dorey I used some good old fashioned jbweld to glue them in place. now I have six switches. for my fog lighs, lighbars, etc...

I had seen in the classified here of some for sale already done and said heck I can do that. if you all do need extra switches and such I also made a five relay j-box that runs all the relays and such. if need be a can write a tutorial on how to make one and how I ran the wires for such as well.

I've seen the cruise switch used, which is what I had intended, but I noticed that the hazard switch was also latching and was significant cheaper, and it appeared to be essentially the same switch. so that way I could just buy 4 switches for cheap and swap face plates with the blanks I already have. I don't care about having a light on the switch so this seemed to be a win win
