Question Fuel level sensor wire?

Ok guys and gals, this is the 3rd time I've had to pull the fuel pump assembly out to repair/solder the wire that connects the float arm to the rest of the assembly. I'm pretty awesome at soldering, but I suppose I'm using the wrong type of wire.

Will anyone please help advise me on the best kind of wire to use so that it flexes, bends, takes abuse and won't break off after just two weeks of wear and tear?

Was this a dumb/lazy question or is there anyone out there that knows the answer? I'm too **** to just not have a working fuel gauge.

I've searched and rearranged my keywording several times, but only come up with ohm, mA, and V specs, but not the type material and gauge of wire.

I'm a tooling tech, not an electrician. Sorry.

Stranded wire, and with the finest (smallest) gauge strands making it up. Should droop like a wet noodle when you pick it up. Some meter test leads are that way, some headphone / power supply wires for cell phones and IPods. While it is the wrong size, an example is welding cable, very hefty, but flexible. Regular copper wire of same gauge as welding cable is not very flexible.

Thank you Buzz.. I was using 5 strands of the "silver" side of speaker wire. Maybe smaller gauge and more strands? I'll try that.. thanks once more!

Exactly, smaller strands, and more of them.

Just an update on what I used. Solder wick. Works perfectly.

Working on a write-up on it...

I would have guessed audio shielded cable braid as another choice. Anything that looks like the wire inside a relay that connects contacts to base.

That was what I was looking at in the maintenance shop, but only they were wires for robots and too stiff.

Standing back there near the soldering table I noticed the wick. I thought for sure it would work. And so far, so good!

I've been racking my brain for the past two weeks about this. My fuel sender went out, bought an aftermarket pump/sender unit, was not happy with quality and did not install it. I figure since there is nothing wrong with my OEM unit, just the sender, why not just fix the sender? The problem I ran into is, I don't know what kind of wire I am supposed to use. I don't want to blow up my Disco. The wire looks to be a braided type material. Not even sure if its metal, seems like some kind of material really. Is this the problem being discussed on the feed?

look for a high flex grade wire. we use it on robots at work but it isn't cheap. You probably don't need much.
