I believe you meant to say there is no ONE specific cause, but a combination of wear on multiple parts, primarily the bushings. Once there is suffienct slack, it just continues to shift around until all the contributors have been taken care of.

 

yes it can be caused by any one component, all components, or any combination of components of the steering system, there is no rhyme or reason to it and no definitive solution.
