Default Disco chassis 1 & 2 swap?

Is it possible to replace the disco 2 chassis with a disco 1 chassis? Is the chassis on the disco 2 identical to the chassis installed on the disco 1?

If so then I would like to keep the chassis from my 98 disco parts truck, get it galvanized and swapped into a disco 2 (when i get it). What do you guys think? Presumably the price for getting this done would be pretty high, unless I managed to do it myself. Alternatively I could simply keep up with routine under-body wax undercoatings to prevent rust, corrosion, breakage of the chassis but I'm looking to add alot of life to the disco 2 (when i get it).

I'm open to any other ideas as well. Keep in mind that I live in New Hampshire (on the border with Canada) We get **** tons of rain, snow, ice, salt and we live close to the mountains so any added "preventative maintenance" would be good I think.

No, they are NOT the same.
The DII is longer and wider than the DI.

Alright thanks Spike. Are there any other parts from the D1 that would be useful in the D2? Excluding the power steering gearbox, ps hoses, and steering damper as I just sold them. What about the drivesahfts?

For those so inclined, there are metal treating firms that can hot dip galvanize just about anything you can haul to them. I got some custom welded up gates done, and they were cerainly a lot more square feet than a Disco frame. Of course, we are talking frame off restoration. There are also spray on cold galvanize products, LPS (www.lpslabs.com) makes a variety, and they do work. Full discolsure - my egg head chemist brother runs part of their R&D, travels worldwide working on corrosion problems.

You seem to be really enthralled to the point of obsession with the fantasy of having a Wonderful DII. What makes you think the DII is so fffing great?

What kind of work do you do?

You seem to jump into a lot that just does not work out well.
