Default Dream Disco not so good....

Saw a yellow D1 on Craigslist ($2300), but a local mechanic got there first, and here is his opinion posted on cl. Sounds like all the normal problems many encounter with an older Disco.... IMHO if you can afford a pre-purchase inspection it is money well spent even if you walk away.

so this guy is on here trying to sell a 95 landrover discovery, yellow in color, dont buy this car, first off the guy is very rude if you offer him a reasonable price secondly the car is messed up i am an ase certified mechanic i checked it out and this is whats wrong, evap vent line(fuel tank basically) leaks, brakes are worn(it would need a new brake job, the tires are NOT new as advertised the date on the sidewall is two years old, every light on the dash board was on when i looked at it, it leaks oil and trans fluid and the exaust valves are tapping, and the crankcase is full of sludge, i am not trash talking i am stating plain and simple facts look under it in the rear at the fuel tank, look inside where you would pour the oil with a flash light, listen to it run look underneath it you will see it all, this guy is a liar and a rip off, even with these problems i still offered him a reasonable cash price and he proceeded to curse and yell like a child. just fair warning bad seller, bad car. you have been warned.

Beautiful work by the mechanic and unfortunately his info will probably get ignored.

Somebody who has never owned a Land Rover will end up buying it for full price because it's so "Cool".

It's a free country.....and we still allow even idiots a free spot in the local news paper.

Is the yellow cool just because of Camel Trophy dreams. Personally I can't stand yellow.

Sounds like pretty much every used Disco previously owned by an idiot who wasn't capable of/ was too cheap to maintain it.

ASE certified means little, especially in this case. I know plenty of guys who are certified and they don't know jack but they can remember data long enough to complete a test.

Most "mechanics/techs" would probably give a thumbs down to the majority of British cars. The truth here is these folks just don't get it. British cars leak! They leak fluids out, they leak fluids in! That is what they do!

The leaks and issues can be fixed though. These are trucks for hobbyist types at this stage of the game as they are probably not worthy of the cost of having repairs done professionally.

They have a certain,......Mojo! that nothing else on wheels has.

Well stated, Higgs. And not just British cars, but anything high dollar and less common. Used ones eventually get so cheap that guys who could not afford an O ring from the dealership can buy the vehicle, and service them just like the other jalopies they have owned and ignored.

BTW, glad the physics piled higher and deeper crowd finally "found" you.

As for British cars leaking, those James Bond fans will recall from Goldfinger the chase scene with the Aston Martin equipped with a simple manual over ride switch for the automatic underbody corrosion applicator spraying oil on the roadway and sending a Mercedes crashing down the hillside.
