Default Electrical Problem. seeking input and suggestions

Hey everyone, I am new here but have been reading alot. I have a 1999 Dico SD. It has a small but aggravating electrical problem, i am looking for any and all suggestions and what and where to look for to solve this problem. here are the symptoms....

With the light switch in the off position when i step on the brake the following happens..
The passenger headlight comes on
The gear indictor lights go out
The dash illumination lights come on

If I have the light switch in position #1 (dash illumination and running lights only), and push on the brake the following happens..

The passenger headlight comes on
The gear indicator lights stay on
The dash illumination lights stay on

If I have the light switch in position 2 (headlights, runing lights, & illumination lights on) and push the brake all the lights stay on as they should.

I also noticed that my rear running lights are brighter then they should be, when i push the brake they do get slightly brighter, but not alot brighter.

I also want to mention that i have an antilock brake code of 2-8 which i believe means no voltage to ABS solenoid valve, faulty valve relay or wiring. Not sure if this is related or not.

I will be working on this today, I am mechanically and someone electrically inclined, please post any and all suggestions...

Thanks for your help .

Have you downloaded the RAVE? If not, go to the Disco I technical section and download it. Within the RAVE library you will find an electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting guide. This has all the circuit diagrams for your disco in it, start getting very intimate with them.

You may have corrosion on rear light bases - that provides stray connections to lots of other circuits.

Electricity takes the path of least resistance so check all of your factory grounds for corrosion or just bad connection...RAVE manual. Might want to invest in a meter so you can find out where you have voltage, how much voltage you have or if you have non, it will also help you check to see if you have a good grounds. Also, check to make sure you have all the factory specified bulbs. I have seen bulbs cause problems just because they are sucking more juice than they should be. Hope this helps

Another issue with the Discovery lights is the switch itself can act up. I had to replace the turn signal stalk in mine due to tail lights and dash lights not working with head lights on.

The Discovery has terible corrosion issues due to poor assembly practices.
