engine options
Hi everyone, I hope this question dosen't offend anyone.
I have a 2000, ford diesel V8 7.3L. I would love to drop it in a 1997 Discovery. Is this posible or even logical?
Any help would be appreciated.

Anything is possible, even when not practical. That 7.3 weighs several times what the rover engine weighs, so you would need much heavier front springs. The weight will likely be a burden to the existing braking system also. The torque will most likely destroy the diffs and entire driveline in short order. You still need to sort out what transmission you would use and a means of adapting it to the LT230, or change the complete setup to something that you could just bolt in. You may run out of length though, the ZF and LT230 are fairly compact. You will have to keep in mind the LT230 output is offset, that may get interesting when trying to fit a rear shaft. This all would cost you several times what the truck is worth, perhaps more.
I was looking at the possibility of swapping a 4.6 Ford DOHC into a Disco. Looking at them side by side I decided I would fix the Rover engine. It's a simple setup that works for it's intended purpose.
You can do whatever you want if you have enough money.
