Default '99 Disco II Engine Options

Driving back from AZ this weekend, engine crapped out. Heavy rattle and Cylinder 8 misfires. Had a great time up until this point and really lucked out, getting stranded just inside the CO side of the CO/UT border.
Gonna take it all apart this week and start figuring out what's really wrong, but I'm assuming some measure of fluid...whether oil or coolant...is in that cylinder. Have had a slight coolant leak for a while, but it left a lot on the carhauler we used to get it home.
Now I'm thinking about my options. I've searched and read a few posts that killed the Chevy 350 idea, which is just too bad. I'd have loved the extra power.
That's really what I'm going for... I love my Disco, but it's a dog when towing. Had a short pop-up camper on this trip and we were almost going backwards up Vail Pass. My buddy's Chevy 2500, on the other hand, hauled the Tahoe and carhauler that came to get me up Vail Pass doing 80.
Cost being a factor, but not a single limiting factor (meaning I'm willing to spend a little more, but not break the bank), what would you guys do? I can rebuild this one and live with it as is, but I'd like to hear some other suggestions.
Thanks.

I would suggest getting a 4.6 shoertblock and maybe putting a mild cam in it. If you overheated your engine, chances are you dropped a liner. Especially with the rattle. Check out your block and see what fluids are where, but if you want more power, drop a 4.6 in.

For get the Chevy, read some of the other posts, can't be done unless you also replace the tranny, t/case and ad some point the spider gears. Too heavy, too much torques and it won't work with your ECU's
Build a nice 4.6 and be happy.

Yeah, the posts I read killed the 350 idea. 4.6 seems like the way to go. If you have any leads on local salvage yards to try or a place to find one, would love to hear it.
Thanks.
