Default Front o2 sensors are bad..help?

I am moving in 7 days and it is a 14 hour drive and its 913 miles to where im going. My front O2 Sensors are bad. The check engine light is on. Do I have to change them before we leave? and if so what brand would be best to use. I have a 99 land rover disco 1 SD. Oh and also we found out that there is fuel fumes leaking from the back. we replaced the fuel cap but there is still a smell of gas at the back by the tank when the car is idling. does anyone know what that might mean? or what needs to be fixed? thank you

Change the o2's. They are $120+ each... for ones that plug right in, or 60 bucks for the ones that you have to reuse your old plug. I'm using nkg.

Sounds like either your vent line or one of the other lines to your fuel tank is leaking, I say vent line first cause it's a common failure.

Either way, sounds like a you need to do some work BEFORE you take it out on a loaded 1000 mile hike....

These are the ones I used for my 98 D1 I don't know if they are the same for your 99 D1.

http://www.amazon.com/NGK-25044-Oxyg...9764874&sr=8-1

NGK 25044 for $47 each. I just did all 4, fixed my previously burnt up and poorly fixed harness, and now I'm running CEL free with 1.5-2 mpg increase.

change the sensors, my recent experience was that a bad front (pre-cat) o2 was causing the truck to run very rich, i was getting about 8 miles to the gallon, and the tailpipe smelled like a refinery. im betting once you change the sensors your fuel smell will go away

Rather than retype the same stuff over.. here is a thread with good info and the difference clearly laid out as to which o2 sensors to buy for your vehicle.......

Freaky: my '99 D1 does it regularly, this is how I fix it: I clear the O2 code and run a can of seafoam into a full tank. The code might come back, so I run a second can of SF.

When was the last time you did an induction clean? SF is very good at cleaning O2 sensors.

If SF doesn't fix your problem, swap the rear sensors with the front and save some $$.
