My gut thinks it's the fuel filter, but in doing all this I may very well have fried the pump. I don't exactly mind; it is worth the education to have made that mistake. I have learned SO MUCH from you all and it's been pretty fun investigating.

I called my mechanic today and he concurs with everything.

My car is still down the hill, still have to figure out how to get it up here.

I keep thinking I won't be able to get the fuel filter nuts off and will resort to cutting it with a hacksaw and unscrewing two halves. Well, at least that's what I was fantasizing during pre-op appointment today.

Will dig into it Wednesday, unless tomorrow goes unprecedentedly well. Thank you so much for all your help. I look forward to tons of learning and appreciation for these from this forum. I have always wanted one. My previous DD was a 1980 MB 300SD and I got the bug for care and conservation, as I am sure you can all probs relate to.

** edit -- didn't know the key was supposed to be in Pos 2 when pressing the Schrader valve, so don't really know anything there. Will test that after changing fuel filter, which needs doing anyway just for routine maintenance and because I bought one. For sure seems not to be just a fuel pressure problem, not something I could cure with a bleed.

Also suspect fuel relay, is def in the running.

This is all going to eat my budget for replacing the stereo but oh well. Didn't want to have to replace it but it think there's a tape in there and keeps trying to turn it, and that is wasting what precious battery is left, yikes.

@FishEH -- I know the pump and filter are independent. I am not 100% that the pump didn't whirr, it is stopped on a main street and just very loud, so can't be sure it wasn't coming to life. Just nothing to say about the pump except that nothing rules it in or out yet.

What year is your truck? I will take a picture of the fuel relay under the hood and post but mine is a 98', don't know what all would be the same. Depending on the year of yours. I know for the filter, I sprayed the ends a few times before actually trying to break them loose, but it is a PITA.

 

97, pre-advanced emissions. So-- early 97? Gasser, 97, V8.

I've owned it since December.

I got diagnosed with my dumb cancer last year and decided I was NOT going to meet my maker in a Hyundai if I could help it.

So far everything has been where it's supposed to be. Hey, what's the doorbell-looking thing on the driver side under the hood? Thought it was the inertia switch but much, much smaller. Close to the firewall but some other component (blanking on what) was closest, then this about ten inches further toward bumper. Will take a pic if it doesn't sound familiar. The inertia switch, I believe, was closer to the passenger side and RIGHT by the firewall, and about twice as big. Hit both several times just to be sure.

 

RE: the fuel filter IDK if you saw this already, but it gives a good look of the location. And AB sells the kit( Fuel Filter Kit For land Rovers) to get rid of the threaded end fuel filter.

Umm don't sound familiar, it's to dark to take a picture of the fuel pump relay tonight I will do it tomorrow after work. Yes the interia switch is against the firewall on the passenger side the button is the size of a 50 cent piece.

 

It's the hood switch for the alarm. When the alarm is set if someone opens the hood the alarm goes off.

 

Fuel filter is a good idea since you sucked the tank dry but not likely the issue since there is a strainer sock on the pump, key forward to run push the schrader and gas should shoot out like a spray paint can

It is probly easier to roll up the rear cargo carpet and pull the plate on the floor to do your electric testing, you may find bad connection at the pump, need to do this anyhow to swap pump, instead of lying under trying to get at the plug on frame

 

Finally got around to taking the picture of the fuel pump relay, and it's location. Have you had a chance to do anymore with your truck yet?

 

She had surgery yesterday. I don't think the fuel pump is first priority at the moment.......
