This is my concern as well.. which is why I purchased an engine oil cooler (external) with a thermostat. should be more effective than the internal rad one

added cost yes, but next rad replacement is going to be cheaper.

The ID for the oil lines are 3/8in I think the actual ID (after reducer) for the GM tranny cooler side is much lower than we think. Have not measured though

the more i look at it , why not get a rad with no coolers? rover provides the trans cooler and you can add an oil cooler between the rad and condensor like a d2, this should take heat away from engine coolant right?

If you read back some pages you'll see I cut the Rover coupler/fittings of from the cooler lines and adapted the GM coupler/fittings with hyd hose and good hose clamps. I did flare the ends of the cut Rover lines for good measure. I'll post more pics later. I didn't use a reducer or anything, just the GM fittings.

I had to use reducers as there was no way to get the 1/2OD metal line down to the size needed for the cooler line...

Then the brass fitting in the rad reduced it even more (if you look inside the hole was tiny.. I got pics i can post )

As far as rad with no coolers, there is a reason the tranny is run through the rad then the open air cooler...

I would say go with a rad w/o the "tranny cooler" for GM and use an external oil cooler setup

Well I guess I'm not wrapped around the axle about the lines... No reducers used on mine. The new GM rad did come with some for one side but I didn't use them for long. Hacked off the couplers/fittings with about 4 inches of the metal tube still attached to it from a GM truck. Hyd hose, hose clamps and voila.

Correction, the radiator I just bought is a 02 S10. Tag said something different. Here's pics of it mocked up. I used the same brackets as before (side tanks are the same). Zip ties were use to hold it in place while I adjusted the brackets. I leave them on as added security. The top fan shroud piece has .030 safety wire now instead of the zip ties. The core on this S10 rad is almost twice as thick as the longer/taller GM 2500 one. No leaks and running as cool as a ocean breeze. Electric fans don't ever kick on...
