Default Headlamp Bulb Upgrade?

So I want to upgrade the bulbs in our headlamps to get a little more visibility. I have the Silverstar Ultras in the Volvo and they are ok but I wanted to see if there was a favorite bulb of Land Rover folks before I bought anything. I have heard of folks running the Osram Rallye which is a 65w bulb, it works perfect in the Volvo circle but I'm not sure that the LR electrical mess will hold up to them. I also DO NOT want to upgrade to HIDs. I have an extreme hatred for HIDs that are retro fitted in vehicles that were not offered with them from the factory. The retro fit kits are 100% illegal and just look out of place on most cars, not to mention our lenses are not designed for HIDs. Just throwing that in because everyone tells me to just get HIDs since they are the new hype.

Anyway what are you guys running and what should I stay away from? Not really worried about the price just want a nice bright reliable bulb.

I recently put a set of these in: OSRAM SYLVANIA - SilverStar® zXe . Awesome brightness! Unfortunately, I had to upgrade my fog lights and Hella driving lights to Silverstar bulbs so they wouldn't look so crappy due to the headlights. (with the new headlights on high beam, turning on the Hellas with original bulbs, made no difference until I replaced the Hellas with Silverstar bulbs. I am probably going to replace the city lights with Silverstars, because the yellowish tint of them sort of makes the headlights look weird at the lower edge.

Hella makes a great replacement bulb, if I remember right it is an 85/100 watt. I ran them for years before up=-grading to HID's which I will never get rid of.

Not everyone, only the people who like to suggest illegal modifications that have a negative effect on other drivers.

Mike,
Which HID kit did you use? I like the performance of HIDs and I could slide them through state inspection. What really turned me off to them was the frequency of retro fit kits I see that end up just being really blue and not very bright. I'd like to find something that is actually built to light up the road, not just turn it blue. Some kits offer different color temps but I can't really judge what I need as I've never seen them on a Disco.

Also were yours hard to install? Thanks man.

I have the Phillips Extra Vision, I also put them in my wifes Volvo and my mothers Escape.
They are great in the rain, fog and snow, they reflect less than standard bulbs.

I run a 6000K, 35 watt bulb which is as white as you can get, the lower the "K" number, the yellower the light, the farther it goes down the road.
