Default How big is this problem??

I just got a 98 Disco, 65k on clock. I keep reading about this problem and locally here I have seen 3 disco's for sale that ALL have the sleeve in the cylinder that has slipped. How bad of a problem is this?. Is there anything we can do to lessen the chances of this happeninig?. Oil quality?, NOT over revving the motors?? anything?. or is this a "built on Monday vs built on friday afternoon" problem?. I just hate driving around paranoid that my DD is on the verge of something catastrophic at any minute

I've heard of it happening, but nowhere near as often as something like headgaskets. That must just be freak coincidence, or mis-diagnosed, to have 3 nearby with the same problem.

Being a all aluminum engine with steel cylinder liners if you overheat it once your engine is now a coffee table.
Dont over heat the engine and dont worry about it.

Honda engines don't do this when they overheat (or at least very rarely... I've never seen it)
