Default How to clean AC Blower motor fan

Hey all, I'm no expert but here's how to quite a noisy AC blower motor in most cases.

1. Remove passenger side foot-well cover on the bottom of the dash, there's a couple of clips which can be removed with a flat tip.

2. Remove three torx T-25 screws on bottom of blower motor, the black drum like unit.

3. Disconnect plug for blower motor and move it around the wire loom, then drop it down.

4. What you'll end up with is a fan unit which may have lot's of leaves and other debris.

5. Clean fan, spray lysol in blower motor housing and reverse removal.

It should now be much quieter.

I’d like to thank this thread for saving me a few hundred bucks. My local rover “specialist” insisted he would need to remove my entire front dash to fix an intermittent clicking sound in my fan system. I went under myself just to be sure and was done in 30 minutes:

Good job. I would encourage everyone who owns a D1 and doesn't drive it as a DD to remove the plastic cowl cover and fabricate/install a wire mesh cover over the fresh air hole. To keep mice from building a nest in the blower cage. That can really smell up a cabin. Use hardware cloth of 1/4" square gap... will do the job. You'll be glad you did. Plus it'll keep leaves and other debris out w/o affecting ventilation airflow.

I replaced the filters (multiple pieces for each section) on Indy with the below when we acquired the vehicle. I've never had issues with any debris in the squirrel cage.
