I have a 96 disco n I was wondering what needs to be done in order to.make the service engine light dissapear. Oil is changed every 3000 miles

 

The best thing you can do is look at your fault code display and find out what the actual error is. This is where a mechanic friend who has AUTOLOGIC comes in handy. A diagnostic check at a shop shouldn't run you too much in relation to missing a major fault and the eventual cost.

OR.... first find your radio security code for your radio (if it is a stock LR unit). Then you can simply disconnect the neg. terminal on the battery for about 10 seconds. This step is easier than locating the serial link and disconnecting it for 5-10 seconds.

replace the neg batt terminal and switch on the ignition to position 2. Back off again to clear reset code of ECM and then back on. Now you need to enter your security code on the radio... get it right or you'll have to wait about an hour to re-enter the code (you get 3 trys).

The check light should clear. If it comes back on you need more than an oil change.

 

Are you talking about the RED service engine soon or the amber Check Engine light?
