Default How To Remove The Shifter ****

Something in the shifter handle in my 95 isn't working. So, my key is stuck in the ignition and shifting between gears is intermittent. I can't find a bolt or screw holding it in place. How do i remove the shifter handle so i canfix this?

pry out the centerpiece on the shifter handle with a small screwdriver or pocket knife.......the rest will be obvious after that. could be anything in there from loose change to broken parts

Ok. I removed the shifter and it didn't look like anything was broken down to the console, but I didn't go further than that as I had to reassemble everything and go run errands. I'm gonna butcher correct names for parts here, so forgive me. But, it seems like the gear shaft is stuck in the extended position that allows me to shift through my gears. I tried to move it with a pair of pliers, but it wouldn't budge. So, I can still shift through all my gears without pushing the shifter tab in b/c the shaft is already up. Is this as simple as lubricating the shaft, or could there be something else I need to look for?
