After reading the statement that the owner's manual syas there is a front hook as well as the two tie-down points, I had to go out to the driveway and take a good look at the Discovery.
I had removed my factory brush bar long ago due to corrosion. I also removed the facory air dam, plastic end caps, fog lamps, all the way down to the bare-*** bumper.
All I see is the two lashing points. No factory tow hook of any sort. The rear also has two different shaped lashing points and the factory recptacle on the rear bumper for a tow/trailer hitch or recovery hook.
As far as hooking up to the front you could either try to slip something over the frame crossmember but there's not much clearance, or push back the white plastic trim over the bumper and wrap it around the two frame mounts and the bumper.
You should go ahead and install a good tow point if you think you may need to ****** it out. You don't want to be stuck and have the bumper ripped off as well.........................

I actually used the tow points on the bottom of my brush bar a number of times without problem. Not something I would want to do all the time but it works well enough for the occasional recovery. I even got pulled out of a snow bank by the tie-down loop once. Bent the crap out of the loop but I came out of the snow bank.
I'm a firm believer in throwing a jacket or something over a tow strap or winch cable any time I do a recovery. I've been fortunate and the only damage I've seen caused by flying straps or chains that broke has been to vehicles and not people but I still don't like to risk it. It's too easy to throw something over the strap or cable to weigh it down in the event of it snapping to risk someone's life.
