One teaspoon of straight engine coolant and you're dead inside a week.

If you're a dog or a cat.

The lethal dose of ethylene glycol is usually 1.4-1.6 mL/kg
I'm about 180lbs, so that works about to about half a cup. But I'm sure that even half of that will make you so sick you'd wish you were dead.

I had a dog die from ethylene glycol poisoning. It was a horrible thing for the whole family. I had been working long and hard on the cooling system and quit for the night leaving coolant on the garage floor thinking I'd clean it up the next day. For some reason, the wife decided to lock the dog in the garage after I had gone to bed - I think he may have had an accident. Next day, he started acting funny. We didn't know what was wrong. His usual vet thought it was something else and gave him anti-biotics. Ended uptaking him to an animal hospital and he died about a week after the sleep in the garage. They tried some experimental treatment on him, but it didn't work. It crystalizes in the kidneys and they shut down. Needless to say, I treat the stuff like cyanide now.
