Default Its a Glorious Day except for a missing cat.

So the wife gets a new vehicle and I get the landy to play with finally! Going from boring stock to trail ready! YEAH! Any who I'm going over the disco making a list of replacements (leaking seals, ball joints etc. etc) and I notice there is only one cat. My wife has had this car since college so I assume she was swindled at Joe Bobs backyard garage. I ran a check and have P0130 and P1176 aka bad o2 circuits. My question is will running one only one cat be ok? I always noticed it smelled like it was running richer but I convinced myself its a British car that's what they do... Anyways its a 99 disco I 4.0L with a straight pipe in lieu of a cat, still has the up and downstream o2's. I would rather buy a new set of Old Man Emu HD shocks than a new y-pipe

hi I too have a 99 disco 1 and want to hit the trails.

I have already replaced an o2 sensor so i can walk you through the process if you would like. Although I'm sure you already know how to do it since you sound very experienced.

The hardest part is buying the correct o2 sensor for the right price. The disco 1 uses a different o2 sensor than the disco 2 even if the donor is the same year. Many junkyards cut off the exhausts so you best bet would be ebay. $40

Or the autostore if you don't care so much about costs.

BTW sorry about the cat. I'm more of a dog guy myself lol.

I too am a dog person ha! I do plan on replacing all the o2 sensors if needed. I guess what I meant to say is if by not having a cat on the driver side (basically the upstream and down stream o2 sensors are reading the same) will that have an adverse effect on the engine efficiency and life? Also mr4x4 does it bug you as much as me when you search for disco I stuff and all that pops up is disco II??

Skip the OME HD shocks, the truck will ride like a brick.

You have 1 bad upstream O2S and that's effecting your fueling = it's at it's max and it will not correct (adapt) downward. Neither of those codes has anything to do with a missing catalytic converter...... they're the reason it's missing.

If you don't have emissions testing cut the other cat off, replace both upstream O2's.

British vehicles in the hands of most Americans do perform lousy......

I know the codes don't mean I'm missing a cat. I'm not up to speed on emissions nor does Alabama care. I am just making sure if I keep the cat off and replace the o2 its not going to foul in six months. What do you suggest for springs/shocks for lite daily driving more trails. Last time I messed with off road rigs was years ago with a jeep. Kinda clueless on the set up for rovers.

If your just looking for ome shocks i would go with a brand like monroe just because its more budget friendly. If you were looking for a lift I would recommend a lift kit from terra firma which includes shocks and springs. Some other brands for lift kits for the disco 1 are old man emu, and iron man 4x4.

I am looking to lift it with maybe 32" tires. From what I have researched I can go up to 32" without re-gearing. Thanks for the link

Lucky8 LLC Shop away at your hearts content.

X2 on Terra Firma and if it's light duty your after don't go any higher than Medium Duty anything otherwise you'll be very disappointed in how harsh the ride will be.

Do any of you know why there is a huge price difference between the Terrafirma and OME medium shock kits? At Atlantic British the Terrafirma is half the cost. Also do any of you have any experience with the Terrafirma rear shock relocation bracket?
