Default key in ignition warning sound

Have seen some posts about this but no definitive solution. With my 96 Cherokee it was just a matter of pulling out the sound box and the annoying buzz was no more. Please tell me it's as simple on a 98 discovery? This beep is way too loud!

I think it is the multi function unit (MFU) which os a small box on back of fuse panel under dash. Controls lots of things, has a sounder inside.

Thanks for that. Away for work now but will check out and update as per your suggestion on my return.

You will usually find prompt results on this forum, no need to wait a week. Here is a pix of the circuit board inside that device, the round thing lower right is the sounder. Some tape will mute it.

cwmoongrove,

can you get your key out of the ignition? I just recently ran into a problem where I can't get my key out of the ignition (unless the battery is disconnected) and that buzz is constant once the vehicle has been started. You got any of these issues?
