My mesh grill was 5 1/2"... not long enough at all even fully pressed flat. I also got some c clamps to hold down the next grill as soon as I can find it.

Is the gutter guard stout enough?

I have a piece of expanded metal that I was considering using. It is wide enough to make two strips and overlap them since the openings are fairly big. I was thinking of doing an overlap and completely do away with the existing plastic grille. This would be a very strong grill replacement alternative. And the piece of expanded metal is already here waiting to be used.....

The sides and the bottom are easy to stick to the plastic but when I try to do the top portion it doesn't go as well. Did you bend the gutter guard to curve like the top portion?

heres mine that i did with expanded metal from tractor supply. It came in a 24x24 sheet and i gut it up and welded it where it fit to what i needed.
it looked awesome for the few months before i had someone back into my front end and screw everything up. but the grille survived with only a few cracks.

Did you use rivets..? I see metal all round the bumper, I thought about using screws and having a friend weld the guard to the screws..
