Default Mystery Starting Issue

My bulletproof D1 has suddenly developed reliable starting issues. Took it to a local independent, an old friend, because it was becoming difficult to start cold. It turns over fine, but won't catch. Not sure what he did, but now it will start cold usually, although not with authority. But, on warm days, if I've been running around and I turn it off for 10-15 minutes, it will not restart. No hint of catching. But if I leave it for 30-45 minutes, it starts right up like there was never a problem. The first hints of any problems started last year on hot days in stop and go traffic it would start running very poorly, stall, and wouldn't want to restart for a while. 10 minutes later it would start and run poorly for a bit, but things would clear up. This happened only 2-3 times last summer. I know they replaced some vacuum lines last time in. Ideas?

This may have nothing to do with anything, but I noticed 10 years ago that if I tried to insert and turn the key in the ignition too fast, it would not start. If, however, I inserted the key, turned the ignition on, waited a beat for a thump to happen that I could hear and feel through the brake pedal, then turned the ignition switch to engage the starter, it would light up every time. Familiar to anyone?

Default A virus...

Welcome to the club...

Read my recent, related issues nearby. First difficult cold starting, then difficult warm starting, then no warm starting, then no key starting but immediately with a tug, or downhill; now no starting, warm or cold, key or tug. Everything in the ignition system already replaced.

The culprit certainly now is the alarm system immobilizer but impossible to find out how to isolate that silly bug.

Interesting idea. Not sure that's my problem, but not sure it isn't, either. I just wish I could get the problem to repeat consistently so I stood a chance of tracking it down. If I am dealing with 2 different issues, and I could be, then the alarm immobilizer could certainly be one.

I had a similar issue, it was loose wring at the battery/starter. But could be a few things according to the posts.
