I just traded one of my motorcycles to my father-in-law for his 1996 Discovery SD. I'll get into the good and bad of the vehicle in a later post but for now I had a question about towing.
I have a 20' Komfort lite travel trailer with electric brakes. The disco has a trailer connector in the back but do I need to install a seperate trailer brake controller or is that function already built in to the disco's wiring?
Thanks all and I will try to put up some pics this evening.

Controller is not built in. Download the RAVE below, a factory manual set, incluidng owners manual, which has towing limits.

There was also something about people having some issues trying to use the stock Discovery trailer plug with the US version of trailer wiring. I do not recall the specifics involved, so do a search before you hook up and fry something.

You need a connector. Atlantic British sells
them.

That looks like it converts the disco's wiring to a flat four but my trailer connection isn't flat four(it's round) and I would still need a brake controller, so i'm not sure if that will do me any good.

Wiring attached from RAVE, connector is inside right rear, remove panel inside truck like you were changing a tail light bulb. Download the whole RAVE and you will have wire color code, photos of locations, connector pin-outs, etc.

Here's towing capacity from owner's guide, also in the RAVE:

TOWING WEIGHTS
On-road.............................................. .................................................. Off-road
Unbraked trailers .................................................. . 1650 lb (750 kg)....1650 lb (750 kg)
Trailers with brakes - high range ........................... 5500 lb (2495 kg).. 2200 lb (995 kg)
Trailers with brakes - low range ............................. 7700 lb (3490 kg) -
Roof rack load .................................................. ..... 110 lb (50 kg) **
Maximum permissible tongue weight .................... 330 lb (150 kg)
