Default New vs Old Cam Gear Pics

New gear left, old right. New is from British Pacific, Allmakes brand, unknown manufacturer.

It fits on much tighter, there were bits of casting material or something left in the corners, and the key is a bit too wide so that it actually chiseled out the keyway on my cam putting it on. It has a dark grey, slightly pitted, slightly uneven, but very smooth surface. They good part is it seems very hard. They key showed no signs of wear even after being hammered onto the cam, and it completely resisted my attempted grinding with a stainless steel wheel.

Gear teeth - cast on left, machined on right? Seems like machined might be a step up, more precise?

Hummm....that cam gear in cast isn't the business, hence the issue with the cam. The scratches on the cam should be an issue. I just hope that gear doesn't fracture down the road.

Bet you it is from China, I would have sent it back along with a letter and picture to British Pacific.
I would suggest anyone needing a new gear set make sure it is American made.

Since the motor is essentially a buick 215 would a cam gear set by one of the reputable aftermarket mfg's for a buick work? I recall seeing someone mention a source/part number for something that would work but i cant seem to find it via search..
