Default New vs Old Camshaft Pics

This time, new RIGHT, old LEFT. Brand is Allmakes, manufacturer is unknown. Some of you are already aware of my issues with this new cam. I previously thought it was shorter, causing the gear and itself to clamp down on the thrust plate in between. A non-rotatable cam shaft is of course, bad. However, it turns out the journal is actually too tall or high, as you can see in the picture.

The lower journals appear to be spaced slightly different too. This may not matter.

Lobes appear to be spaced the same, thankfully.

After reading all of your recent posts I'd send all of that "Allmakes" stuff back where it came from and try to find a decent manufacturer to buy parts from. Looks to me like they make cheap parts that are good enough to work but far from perfect. Honestly using what you took out of the motor may be a better option if Allmakes is the only manufacturer making aftermarket parts for your Rover. That stuff reminds me of those Chinese eBay cranks a lot of racers I run with decided to try due to cost. "Oh it looks great and fits just fine, who needs your $3000 crank" they said. A few runs into that new crankshaft most found out why they were so affordable.

That Allmakes stuff is apparently warrantied but good luck with that, doubt any user could prove failure was do to manufacturer error and not user error.

By the way a lot of cam manufacturers can make you a custom ground piece by taking measurements from your old one and using the stock spec to get proper parameters. Costs out the you know what but at least you'll know its right.

I have had less than good experiences with AllMakes. My timing sprocket wasn't cast properly and the woodruff key was too small. Got two of them this way. Also had two 6 month old trailing arm bushings completely fail on me four hours from home. AllMakes Quality Control is lacking to say the least.

A few parts from AllMakes I've used have been good, average, quality.

But, from reading your other posts, now have me concerned. I've never had any issues to date, though only used gaskets, seals, and hoses....etc, no real hard parts yet.

Now the cam...

If the block is out and has nothing in it (head, etc.), slide the cam in, install as normal. Now check all the clearance, see if it binds or has any interference. I (we) would definitely like to know...

This cam was made in the UK, if anyone cares.

All other tolerances and signs of quality look good upon installation. I'm not exactly using precision lasers here, but moving it around felt the same as original. Obviously that was until the gear was on.

Allmakes is the number 1 aftermarket parts supplier for Rovers, they are a UK company.

It's so scary. I may have to just buy either another old Volvo or Benz as my primary vehicle and save my Discovery for playing in the mud.

There is a nice Volvo 240 Wagon I saw for $1500, and a few Benz 300's, a 450 SEL, a 560 SEL in the 2 to 3 grand range.

I will sell you my wifes POS 850 turbo wagon Danny.
My Rover is WAY more reliable than her Volvo.
