Newbie... advice needed. :)
Hello guys! New here at the forum... and not an Land Rover owner yet but hoping to be one in the near future.
To be concrete: I'm looking at an Discovery I from 1995, 240000 Km, 149129 Miles. I'm very tempted to buy this vehicle, also for long distance travel.
It has some work on the interior. The outside looks ok. Just a few spots with rost, bot nothing 'big'.
What worries me is a oily rear differential. Doesn't look like a leak, but just a bit messie...
It's the 300 Td engine, which sounds very nice... no big flaws there.
Could you give me some honest advice? Is this a walkaway or a get-in?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,

Buy it, the messy rear diff is most likely a clogged rear axle breather, it is common on these trucks.
25USD and 20min DIY.
What happens when it clogs is the pressure and condensation cant escape so pressure builds up and forces itself out the pinion seal and the water turns the gear oil milky.
These trucks love long highway cruises, you can expect high 20's to low 30's in MPG with your TDI.
Obviously offer less for the truck, show him the messy rear diff and say something like "it needs a new one, thats alot of money mate"
Once you get her home replace the rear axle breather, change all the fluids and filters and enjoy your truck man.
