Default no high beams

hey guys - I have low beams but as soon as I pull the stalk to put the brights on I get nothing from the headlights (other than the little amber lights in there).

I checked the bulbs - they look good (they are basically brand new), I checked fuses 4 and 5 under the dash and they are both good.

I suppose it could be the stalk, but how likely is that?

short of pulling out the multimeter is there anything else somewhat obvious that I am missing here?

"How likely is that?" Reply; Does the Earth orbit the Sun? What you do next is how effectively you can answer that question...... or feed oneself without a caregiver.

I'd check the wire connection on the light switch for heat/corrosion and proceed. If neither is present then it's the contact for high beams which put out just a few more watts than low........

I'm a little confused on what you are telling me to do. What's the procedure for checking the contacts on that light switch?

I see, not a self feeder.....

Eyeballs is the procedure. Take the column shroud off, remove the stalk switch and look at the connections. Tell me there isn't one (labeled #3 on the switch) that isn't brown and distorted.

What do you think you can accomplish with a V/O meter? There isn't power to the switch? There is. There isn't power from the switch to the high beams? There isn't. See, did all the work for ya.
