Default occasional rough idle

Don't really know how to explain this, but here goes. A few months ago on the interstate, my discovery (out of the blue) acted like it was running out of gas for just a few seconds & then ran fine. Since it hadn't repeated this until a week ago, I more or less forgot about it. About a week ago I was sitting in a parking lot with the Discovery running & it acted like it was going to stall for a few seconds, the rpm's dropped to about 400 & returned to normal. Drove it 600 miles the next day with no repeat of the rough idle. The day before yesterday, I was sitting at a red light after driving about 75 miles on the highway & it did it again, but only once & again for about 5 seconds. Yesterday, I did the same 75 mile drive & from the time I got off the highway, and while rinning around town, it acted like it was going to stall 5 times (same thing, about 5 seconds). It never stalls, the RPM's drop for about 5 seconds & then runs fine. No warning lights or other issues have been associated with this. Ideas??

My 96 disco has done this too. Im interested to find out more as well. Only happens on the highway after long drives. I dont know if this helps you but i havnt had it happen since after i began releasing the fuel pressure from my gas cap every after every quarter tank consumed. I think the fuel pump may be suspect in my case. Id also say that you should always use 91 octane if you are not already. Ive talked to some rover techs and ive heard everything from fuel pump, injectors, and cat. I hope sombody has more insight for us..........

Me too... Thought about the fuel pump, but that doesn't make sense as it would be working harder moving than at an idle. Thought about the fuel filter but that would fall into the same reasoning as the fuel pump. Electrical issues seem more logical to me, but wouldn't know where to start looking. I use 91 octane (unless it's not available) then I use the 93 octans.

I would suspect the fuel pump.Check the pressure at the rail.Should be at least 32.psi.
