Default Oil in coolant but no coolant in oil

Trying to determine the source of our problem...We have a 97 Disco with a small coolant leak (unidentified) and have oil in the coolant reservoir. There is no coolant in the oil and it isn't overheating. A dealership told us a while back that we have a head gasket leak so I'm not sure if that is part of the problem.

We also have other issues to address but one at a time...

I'd look to the radiator first. Inside one of the side tanks there is an oil cooler. A small rupture in that oil cooler would allow oil into the cooling system. One would imagine that coolant would travel into the oiling system as well but perhaps the breach is small enough that it only allows oil into the coolant under pressure.

I would get the heads skimmed and new gaskets as a matter of course, very common symptom of HG failure is emulsified oil in the coolant and or rocker boxes

As Walt says, there is indeed an oil cooler in the radiator and if you wanted to, you could bypass the oil cooler and run some dish washer tablets through it to clean out any oil and see how it goes or if the radiator cores are at all suspect it would be a good time to swap that out for a new one.

Lucky8 list two so it would be good to give them a call with your chassis number to get the right one.

Good to know. Thank you. I do know that we have a head gasket leak but we were hoping to wait that out a bit longer. Sounds like we'd better just get it done.
