Are you confirming the plug thread size is 1/2"-20 UNF?

Exactly what I'm looking at, but likely not the flat one. They make them for cat and several other brands. If your worried about someone tampering with your oil you've got other problems, either way my cars are kept in the garage. Beside that they have to go under to see that it's even there AND have something to drain into, otherwise it's pretty obvious what's going on. If you see a giant oil spot and don't check, you deserve to buy an engine lol

3-4 times a year? Between the 3 cars I'm constantly working on one of em. Though I've got alternator issues again (couple bad used ones, put together one working one but it cut out again), so this will probably get out on hold again and just do normal.

re: I'm constantly working on one of em

Service activities increase by the square of the number of vehicles owned, multiplied by the number of days left until payday.

I've got to agree that the drainplug is a bummer. Even if you point it the right way, it still pours oil all over your hand when you pull it out. I'm not whining about a little mess. I can use a latex glove, a little more finesse or whatever, but it could be better. The oil filter is super easy to access. Sure can't complain there. But I do wish it wouldn't always dump a little onto the front differential cover.

On the Land Rover you have to watch out for British Standard Pipe, and British Standard Pipe Parallel threads, ala the radiator or diff plugs. The Buick motor is mostly SAE but the oil pan could be Anglified.

Not really. I position my hand above the drain plug. Then I unscrew it using my thumb and index finger(that are pointing down). No mess.
