Default OME or Terrafirma

Just getting back into rovers. It's been a few years and I just picked up a 96 SD 5speed. I've always used OME but the terrafirma kits are much cheaper. What's everyone's real world experience with them?

Probably depends on what you're going to do with the truck. If you're staying on paved road, Terrafirma is probably fine, and I'm definitely not saying that because I just installed the 2" Terrafirma medium-duty kit...

^Yes you are...... we know you.

OME is built by crazy Aussies AND it outlasts the rest of the truck..... which isn't say'n much. Like two opposites, perfect marriage. You can always make money off used OME, Rovers, uh not so much.

I have to ask, what brought you back into Rovers? I've enjoyed my time away from em like you can't believe and every time I even think about it I talk myself out of it easily. I was just checking out a 99 P38 Callaway that seems to get passed around like a stripper with bugs but it was 2k or best but a ton of miles, talked myself out of it within seconds. Rover, was all I needed to say nah.

I see your screen name. I have owned and built many scouts. Currently trying to sell my 73 scout ii turbo diesel. And get this 96SD up and going. The rovers are just a little more practical for me being 33 and having small kids. The 4 doors are nice and I'm planning on building a camel replica out of this one minus the 300tdi. The v8 is much more fun.

OME, Terrafirma, Fox, Bilstein... take yer pick. It all depends on what height you want and what you plan on doing with your Disco.

I started with an 84 Jeep CJ7 and quickly outgrew seat belts, I was given a 62 Scout 80 which I put back together pretty quick and bought a 67 Scout 800 with facing rear bench seats for all four boys. I love the old Scouts, ugly but simple to work on. Road salt and miles eventually killed my 97 Disco. I've always wanted a P38 and will eventually find one that speaks to me. Hard to find one without major issues for sale. The WJ is everything I need right now, perfect daily commuter and snow rocket for rural lifestyle.

+1 for Bilstein. Had them on my first D1 with a 2in lift and they were great. Ive heard the OME are a little stiffer but are great shocks.

OME or RTE for coil springs. TF shocks aren’t bad, then of coarse you have OME, FOX, and Bilstein (wish they’d give us some 5100’s for our D2’s!!!!!). Had some 5100’s on my H3 Alpha and they were excellent!

i have the Terrafirma 2" kit on both my D1 and my D2. it's been several years for both and while the coil springs are still in good shape and hold their height, the shocks seem to wear out faster than they should.

i don't remember which 2" kit i went with on either truck but pretty sure they were the HD. both trucks carry a good bit of weight , 200 to 300 pounds of construction material, in the back occasionally.

when i get new shocks for the D2, i'll probably not use Terrafirma.
