You can fix the vac hose by using two sizes of hose. find a hose that fits the bigger valve cover end, slide it on. cut it about three inches long. find hose that fits the plenum side, slide one end on, then stick the other end inside the bigger hose. The hoses have to be a bit longer so they do not kink badly, but it will work till you can get the correct one.

Cool, I'll run down and see if the local shop has something that will work out...

On an interesting note... The truck runs better with it removed and the resulting vacuum leak removing it causes. Sure, it idles high, but it not as rich and the gas mileage went up some.... I guess because it's sucking more air into the plenum?

Off that little vacuum ports sucking HARD... you can hear it over the headers etc of the running engine. Normal?

It's the hose that runs from the side of the plenum to the passenger side valve cover.

I need to go out and get a picture of the gas line that's cracked also, so one of you could point me to the correct one. In looking up the part there seems to be a few different ones listed...

This bad line would also prevent the fuel system from pressurizing I'm guessing... no hiss when you undue the gas cap... how would that be effecting the running of the truck?

It's would seem to be there are many many issues that have caused this issue, not just one sensor etc. Which is why it's taking so long to figure out. Hell, the rover guy spend 6 hours troubleshooting it to get it to this point.

Very Interesting. Sounds like a good reason not to do things like putting on headers and leaving parts off without knowing what effect they may have.

The vacumn hose you speak of was totally shot on my 97 when I bought it. The hose was physically breaking down inside. I had a problem finding a replacement locally. The first one I puton was a little loose and I kept getting a similar code. I ended up cutting a section from a washing machine hot water hose and forcing it on, it has been working fine ever since.

Good Luck with your continuing saga.

My 97 with less than 120 K on it has been pretty good since I got thru the initial debugging. I am content to leave the engine stock and hope to find another similar Disco to pick up soon for my wife.

What part have I left off?

I already had the headers sitting here, which I had bought to put on my 97, but the 96 had a big crack in one of it's original headers, so I put the ones on I had. I went ahead and upgrade the rest of the system at the same time.

My hose is also breaking down from the inside, gotten so soft that it literally sucks itself shut effectively plugging the vacuum. I have not had the chance today to run out and see if I can make another tube work in there, look like it's 10 bucks to just buy the original replacement.

On the PS pump... I dogged a bullet there.. yes, I know it uses ATF, but the guy at the garage that topped it off didn't. Anyways... get this... turns out that loud knocking you hear was the fan blade actually hitting the high pressure hose of the PS pump... just a little but enough for you to here that noise! To look down on it you would not have even noticed it. I took a 2x4 and got the hose bent down and away and clear of everything and the PS pump all is good there.

Kind of odd that it just so happen to start doing it literally minutes after that guy refilled the system... but he was in there tightening things up so maybe he moved it.
