Power steering fluid explosion

I agree with all of the above, the fluid is overheating for whatever reason and as we all know when a fluid overheats it cant do it job.
Then it expands to much and spews out the weep hole.

Eric...are you running exhaust headers ??? just curious if so, if they could be radiating enough extra heat to cause some problems.

Ceramic coated manifolds actually. They radiate a lot less heat so steering temps should be even better than stock. I tried adding thermal insulation to the lines just in case, but it made no difference.

I've sourced a new steering box from Will for a great price.

$300 shipped. More without a core (he happens to need one). Great deal either way.

I run ATF in my S10 pump FWIW. Haven't had any abnormal noise as a result in the couple of years I've had it.

I also added a cooler to my p/s system for a little extra insurance. Added a second factory trans cooler to the front behind the grill and plumbed it between the box and reservoir.

I hope the new steering gear box fixes it for you. I'm just having a tough time picturing it as the problem.

That is going be one totally restored discovery.

Did you resolve the code issue you were fighting?
