Question about bad U-joint and transfercase/trans mounts

This is what the PO of the truck said when I emailed him the other day:
The rear ujoints are both the same......1996 uses one in the front near the tranny......1998 which is what the drive shaft is really for, uses the same ujoint both frot and back
So I'm guessing it used something else (rotoflex?)
Is there a DIY out there for U joint replacement?
