Default Rebuilt Trans 1-3,P and R but no Drive?

Hi all!
Just got my 98 D1 v8 Transmission rebuilt (ZF 4HP22) But the shop is telling me there's no shift in D. everything else works as should.
ABS light on, code is for bad front right speed sensor. They believe the ABS system talks to the Transmission, and is preventing it to go in D. Want to throw parts at it (ABS Module)
I do not think this is the case.
For reference, transmission and shifter communication was normal before, would shift in D. OBD shows speed.
Any ideas??
THANK YOU!!

No electronics in the D1 transmission. Works pretty much like they did 50+ years ago.

Thanks for the reply!
just to confirm, Even the '98 D1's?

Im thinking one of 2 things. Handbook says
SYMPTOM 3 -
If No drive from rest with ’D’ selected then Select ’1’
If Vehicle drives FAULT - No 2 freewheel
Since this is a rebuild, that clutch would have been replaced (was not an issue prior to the rebuild)

Other option could be the shift linkage needs adjustment.

Sent the advice to the shop and they will investigate.

Yes, even the '98's

Wait, is it the same shop that rebuilt it telling you that they believe the ABS can talk to the transmission?
The only electrical plug on it is for the Reverse light / Start inhibit (park neutral). No electronics, no solenoids.

Would think, after being inside the transmission, the shop should know this.

Guessing it's the governor. I never had to mess with one personally.
I would hope for linkage adjustment.

Okay! thank you!!
I'm still waiting for an update, but im thinking thinking if not linkage adjustment, they goofed up something with the rebuild.

Update from the shop; They now believe it's the Kickdown cable. Im trying to figure out how that would make sense. Would a broken/seized kickdown cable only affect the transmission in D?

Not sure. Believe it affects shift points. Should be adjusted correctly regardless. Don't think it would prevent D not working at all.

There should be a crimped on small chunk of metal on the kick-down cable. Adjustment is simple, there needs to be a small (~millimeter) gap between the crimp and the metal tube it goes in to.

Thank you for your ideas! I suggested they research the kickdown cable.
As the vehicle didn't have issues going into drive prior to the rebuild, i was thinking about other possibilities.
Ii've seen there are many different kinds of valve body gaskets for these transmissions. could it be the case that they ordered/installed the incorrect one? would this cause problems in D, yet leave the other shift points working?
