Default Recommended Thermostat - Coolant System

Hi Guys,

Read through several threads, and again, at a loss in regards to what is the preferred/recommended Thermostat.
The RAVE suggests a Thermostat rating of 88c = 190.4f - Not able to find this exact match on the Autozone site - Closest match is 192f -

What are your suggestions? Any and all input is highly appreciated!!!

In Peace and Agape,
Trav...

Also look at EMP/Stewart 301 (180F), which are Robert Shaw thermostats modified with an edge crimp to allow some tiny flow when closed (eliminate gurgle bubbles in some cases). I am running the high flow version, installed to fight a cooling problem, it did make some difference. But I had lots of other problems. I got mine from Sumitt Racing. On a scanner I run 178 - 180F at high way speed, may get to 200 at idle on warm day (95F+). 160 is too low, the 4th gear overdrive won't kick in until 150F. I was getting north of 231 at idle with AC on, but I had trash in front of radiator, clogged radiator, wimpy fan clutch, condenser fans wired backwards, and that upper hose gets way too hard - head gasket is most likely in my future.

In respect to problems, usually with Murphy's Law in full effect for anything Rover, it won't be just one thing. And it won't be the least expensive. Many a young technician stops looking at the first problem he finds.

I will probably go with the 195f "failsafe" version of the thermostat, a little more expensive, but better QA in the manufacturing process.

I have a 195*F t-stat from AutoZone, I do not have the failsafe version as I have never had a t-stat fail closed, not saying it cant happen just saying it has never happened to me.
My truck runs at 196*F all day long a/c on or not.
Off roading during the summer with the a/c on it runs right at 200-205*F.
