Reno, Nevada to San Diego, California Will I make it?
Hello Disco 1 peeps. I posted pictures of my new rig in the newbie member section. I purchased a 99' D1 with 150k. Has full service records, the head gaskets were done by first owner (who might be a member here) at the 120k mark, along with head resurfacing, ARP studs, the full nine yards. The second owner continued the maintenance and took care of it. It mostly sat on and off the last year, but started it once every other week and would take it to the grocery store and back. He did all the fluids twice in the 30k miles he's had it (trans, brake flush, front and rear axles, with oil changes every 3k miles. I'm going to pick it up end of this month. Going to fly out to Reno, NV and drive it back home to San Diego, CA. Any tips on what I should take with me for the trip besides my underwear? The owner is providing me with extra fluids in case, as I requested them and he agreed. Tools wise, what should I take as I'm not familiar with what size sockets and open end wrenches it would take to repair a hose, thermostat, or other issue I may encounter. My wife really wants to go, but is hesitant as she is also a car person and knows a little about rovers. She wants to just let me die in the desert alone if it blows up lol! Thanks in advance!
best thing I could suggest is the best AAA card that has the one time 200 mile tow - of course a good spare jack and lug wrench for a roadside flat - side of the road repairs are tough because you could need a million and one tools and parts
10 and 13 are the most common sizes for sockets. but just take a whole set of metric along with a couple extensions. i keep a set of ratcheting socket wrenches in my Rover. haven't had to use them yet, fortunately.
AAA is always a good option.
flashlight/headlamp ,just in case, and a fire extinguisher.

Thank you much!! I already have the 200 mile AAA as I live in rural San Diego, so that part is covered. I also need to find out if I can check a pistol on the plane and how, as I have never done that before. Kind of nervous to start this adventure, but excited at the same time.
I drive my rusty but trusty XD all over TX. She's only had 2 issues and both were due to crappy parts being installed onto it. #1 Cheap Chinese Radiator which failed & #2 a MC which was supposedly good which I installed and bled only to have it lock up the front brakes 42 miles into my journey. Both times I was able to get it fixed and get to my destination and resolve it properly.
Carry a good tool set, misc small fuses, hose clamps, jumper cables, and I personally carry a few spare sensors, an alternator, and some spare spark plug wires.

When Indy had just over 200k on the odometer, we relocated the truck, and our 13 year old Dalmatian, from Florida to Colorado in two days.
No issues except for the extreme boredom from driving across the flatlands of Kansas and eastern Colorado.
