Coolant. It is called G12. Common in all newer VW and Audi's. It has a coagulating property which helps slow leaks and identify where they are coming from. Since Audi uses it in their aluminum engines I decided to use it in mine.

Here she is! Tickless!!
1995 Discovery post cam - YouTube

Even though I am a Tech, I did not use air tools. All work done with hand tools except my airlift for coolant which is nice but not necessary. I still need to set timing. She stumbles a bit even though I cleaned out the evap ports. She did this before the cam and tappet failed. I do have a code 48 but I am not worried about that.
I really hope this thread helps someone out!

Yes but the timing is clearly off. I also need to do the kick down cable. I have all the parts for the kick down, including a heat guard sheath since the middle of the old cable is cooked from the exhaust. Just need motivation.

I should clarify why the code 48 is not related. I had it a couple times before the tappet/cam issue. I strongly suspect my IACV is going out. It is a sporadic issue.

Its amazing how many people i've seen get hamstrung over g12 coolant if they were running low and not just top off with distilled water.. common sense isnt so common.. lol..

What did you set your timing at?

I need to inspect my IACV as well. I have some random idle

I haven't Jake. Don't own a timing light. They are so cheap now I may go pick one up.

Audi sells a G12 concentrate in a quart, I have one I keep in my disco for emergencies.
It is something like 10:1. 10 parts water to 1 part concentrate.

You dont have a timing light?!!??

I have been thinking about switching to g12 for some time now.. Maybe next time I do a flush. My GF put green in the Passat once and now it needs a new heater core and has been flushed 100x trust me I wasnt happy, she learned only water from now on unless it's below freezing then it's AAA time
