Talking Sagging rear step fixed...by science!

Like many other D1's out there with a rear step, mine sags. The hydraulic actuator is still trying, but it's just not up to snuff anymore. Growing tired of looking at hanging low I decided to fix it.

OEM options are out there to replace all the parts (Step Rear Hydraulic Service Kit (Part # RTC9593AA) - Land Rover side steps from Atlantic British), but it's $130. Others have removed the step, or zip-tied it but I like having the functionality of a step.

So I bought me these bad boys from amazon:
Amazon.com: Applied Magnets ® 10-pc Strong Rare Earth Disc Magnets 3/4" x 1/4" Neodymium: Home Improvement Amazon.com: Applied Magnets ® 10-pc Strong Rare Earth Disc Magnets 3/4" x 1/4" Neodymium: Home Improvement
. You get ten 3/4" x 1/4" neodymium magnets, with 19 pounds of pull force. I wrapped two with electrical tape to protect them from the elements.

Put them on the arm and slide them to the proper position, and voila!

Here you can see that two bridge the gap nicely

Fixed for $12.20 shipped, and I've got 8 other magnets to play with around the house now! Two in a single stack holds through driving around town; you could always create a few other stacks and put them along the rail to make it more secure for trails and such.

Short legs to go with my stubby arms...with the lift climbing in without the step is less than graceful.

nice I may consider this cheap fix so I can keep my "mud anchor", I too enjoy its helpfulness at times and cant seem to bring myself to delete it.

Thanks for the comments. I actually added another 2-magnet stack to keep it in place; wicked bump on the way into work would dislodge it. Still just under $5 to keep it in place, and six more magnets to keep away from EVERYTHING.
