'service engine' light
Hey guys, my red 'service engine' light has come on, not the yellow 'check engine' light, just curious to what this might mean? 1997 disco I, 83,000 miles. I ordered a scanner to see the problem but will not be here until Tuesday for me to find out an shut the light off, any hints suggestions greatly appreciated, thx
I think this means your due for an emissions deal. I believe you can unplug something in the passenger footwell and it goes away. I know that LR wants you to visit the dealer.. But I don't think you have to. Search this forum for info on how to clear it.
Follow this link. Throw that crap in the trash and move on.
Service light
You need to understand there is a Service Engine light and a Check Engine Light. They are different. Search and read.

Thx for the link Todd, yeah I understand they're two different lights, thus why I was pointing that out. Link doesn't seem to work for iPhones, I'll check it tomorrow on my desk top. Thx everyone.
Cool, that link covers it well. I couldn't find it on this forum but I remembered seeing it on LRO. It's just a service reminder. I forget what the default setting is but it's irrelevant. You know your service history, the light is for soccer moms. 83,000 miles? I'm jealous, my 98 has 3x that.
What scanner did you get? I just installed an ultragauge and I'm still smiling about it. I love the temp alarm and hope I never hear it.
Another good link for ya. Dweb

The aggravating red service engine light means nothing after it initially comes on if you regularly change your oil. Only a dumb oil change light that is a pain to be rid of. Mine has been on for years and countless thousands of miles in my 97 Disco. I am too lazy to get rid of it. I just view it as a reminder that I am driving a Land Rover. In my wife's Honda it is so easy to turn off. Remember LR's are British and things are sometimes made to be difficult.
Resetting the Service Engine Light and this is what you will find, unplug and you are done. Basically if you want to keep it, peel off Rover label or poke hole in it, push screw driver in to short two metal pins and reset it.
