Default Skid Plate for my Cat

I took a rock the wrong way back at SAE and made a break in my cat converter, itried pounding it back in shape, but it didnt help all that much. this isnt the first time this has happened to me. So I'm contomplating making a skid out of some 1/8 in diamond plate steel, and just screwing it on to my cat, I know welding would be the best thing to do, but I dont have acccess to a lift and Ive only welded a couple times, plus i want to get this done before Uwharrie Safari. Is a skid plate for my cat a good idea?

Thanks in advace

Collin

I dunno, sounds like if diamond plate has no where else to send the force applied it is just like smacking it again. May help some, may make it a bigger target.

Collin, you still have to do emmissions in your county? We don't in this end of the state, but I don't know if you are in the "metro" counties that still have to.

And lots of fellas can weld and make stuff like this Rockware unit.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about replacing my cat with a "test tube" but I didn’t know if the Rover will freak due to lack of back pressure. If she’s okay w/out the cat then I’m just going to remove the cat all together! @sb yeah I’m out in the sticks we don’t have emissions here, yet, but I plan on never living in a county that is big enough to need emissions lol. Oh and good point, don’t want it to be a bigger target, all I really want right now is for her to sound good lol.

@ Keoni If I had the money to buy a legit skid I would but I’m living on a shoe string budget right now lol if it wasn’t for Pull-A-Part id be screwed lol hey

@SB & Keoni are yall planing on attending Uwharrie Safari?

I doubt 1/8" will do much. Go with 3/16" and attach it to the frame rails.

No worries man, just wanted to give you a "template" to fab something from. And I was hoping to make it to Uwharrie Safari but I'm not sure my truck will be running well enough in time. I may just have to make due with some of their offroad training courses this summer.
