So what did you do to your Disco today?
LOL why not get larger tires AND keep the articulation???
Brett and I have been talking about this quiet a bit. I have been thru a million set ups and I think I am the happiest with my current set up. Really all he has to do to clear a tire that is 3" taller is trim 2" all the way around. I opted to get flexi flares because I liked the look of them although if you are handy with a saw, it's a cake walk.
Why I am happy with my set up????
Rovertracks toy axles, damn strong.. 4.10's seems to be a good highway/trail ratio.. lockers etc
12" shocks, 3" RTE's keep it low and tons of flex..
35's is the best upgrade I did. NOTHING beats ground clearance. You dont get hung up..
All I have to finish is wiring the e-locker and I should be ready to hit some trails!! Here's more recent pic of her at the mall hahahaha

That's true and I don't want to get in a long conversation about tire sizes. But I just feel like a solid 33 with a ridiculous amount of articulation will make up for a lack of articulation from a 35". Obviously, I have no first hand experience with a 35" flexing and you are right about not being able to beat ground clearance. I guess there are certainly pros and cons to both. But since you're regearing anyways, go big or go home, right?
I've always made the decision based on what tire size my axles can handle without a doubt. But yes, generally, paying to regear rover diffs, plus lockers and axles why run a 33 when they can handle a 35. Bigger tire doesn't mean less flex it just means modifications need to be made to accommodate bigger tires.
. I need them to cover my new wheels on order.. Chris
