So what did you do to your Disco today?

That is what I thought about after I got mine up and running, but then I thought about how much I have always wanted a 5 speed Land Rover, and thought I didn't want another special Landy going to the junkyard. I know they aren't crazy rare, but manuals are certainly harder to come by compared to an automatic.

Got a rack off of craigslist for $50. Didnt look great in the listing, but it said it came off of a 95 Disco so i went to look at it. The mounts were all bent and it needs to be stripped and painted, but it's pretty decent for the price.

Today I replaced a dead condenser fan with a Hayden 3670 fan. Out the door for $50 bux.
I had to move original bracket carefully out of the way but did not mind sense every screw broke when trying to remove. So far it seems to be cooling pretty well at idle.I was able to
take through a drive through for a rewarding milkshake and maxed at 188 degrees!

Disco 1 TDi
Well, back from my Junk yard crawling adventure.
I could only find used: Speedo transducer, window winder switches and clock.
Bought new:
1) Wide Angle front Prop shaft
2) Had the rear prop shaft rebuild with heavy duty U-Joints and balanced.
3) Rebuilt both Axle diffs with Timken bearings.
4) Replaced old oil seals on diffs and Transfer case with new Double lipped seals.
5) Had the flanges polished (oil seal seats)
6) Pumped marine grade 00 grease into the CV's
7) Filled transfer case and diffs with 85W140
Total cost: $1100-00
And then...... on my way back popped a water hose with the following consequences: Cracked cylinder head
Had the truck towed back to Pretoria. ( with a Toyota Landcruiser )
Got a recon exchange head and gaskets and replaced.
One injector was seized in the damaged head and could not be removed.
Replaced that with a 2nd hand one.
Replaced all water hoses with new ones.
New oil filter and oil (Serviced 2 weeks prior)
Total cost: $1200-00
Grand Total: $2300-00
The moral of the story: Land Rover owners become good mechanics
(In my excitement to download photos I somehow pressed delete )

Sunday afternoon with the family at the old walled city browsing at native handicraft after late lunch/ early dinner in a coffee shop synonymous with comfort food.
Since it had been raining all day, we took the Discovery. A few puddles along the way & back due to the high tide rains coinciding with rains. Wish the trip had been longer...
