One thing to check for is an intermittent or corroded ground connection. That will stop you and leave you stranded at the damndest times and places. Good Luck with your trip. PA has some of the worst roads in the nation, you probably jarred something hitting the potholes.

 

Just because the BP one is cheaper... and the Proline pump came in an allmakes box... so I assume they are the same part.

 

I'm having a similar problem with my 98 discovery 1. 3.9 unleaded. Engine stopped while driving. I replaced the fuel pump and all was fine for 3 days and then stopped again while driving. The fuel pump and fuel pump relay are both working but the engine won't start. Does anyone have an idea what else to check???

 

That happened to me after I replaced the fuel pump. For me, the hose that goes from the fuel pump itself to the exit spigot had popped off. The guy at the parts place gave me 3/8 inch hose and it was too small. I got the truck home and got 5/16 hose and a couple of heavy duty clamps and I'm good now. I didn't want to take that fuel pump back out, but it gets easier every time you do it. ;^)

 

To the recent posts regarding starting issues, the only thing I can recommend is if pump and relays and inertia switch are all functioning properly, the next step would be tracing the wiring from pump to engine. Good luck.

 

Do you have spark? If not, I'd look at coil or ignition amplifier.
