Default Steering wheel points wrong direction.

While driving straight ahead, the top of the steering wheel on my '97 points resolutely to 1:00. Now, I don't give a sliver of lizard **** which way the wheel points, but this is a new development and I just want to be sure it isn't, uh, pointing to a real problem.

The truck steers great and tracks straight with no problems. I put in TrueTrac diffs front and rear a couple months ago and gave them their first real workout this past weekend. They of course make the truck want to go straight, so I'm wondering if they may also be masking an alignment issue or some other problem? If so, would this result in uneven wear on the steering components, etc?

did you hit anything during the "workout" ??, you may have bent the drag link a little.

slide off the joints on the steering linkage where it meets the steering gearbox, center the wheel and reconnect it.

thats pretty much the worst way to fix the problem. either the alignment got knocked out or the drag link is bent.

Not that I specifically recall (but, then, I was probably averaging about 1.3 mph), but there would have been plenty of opportunity. That would definitely make sense given the timing. Thanks!

Time to crawl under the truck to take a look.
