Default Successful Junkyard Finds/ Repairs

So, as today was my first day of summer I decided what was better than workin' on the old Rover! After swimming in a buddy's pool I headed out with another buddy, with a Jeep.

But anyways, I got out there and the yard had a three Land Rover Discos and two Range Rovers (RRC and some generic one). So I had my hand written list of needs and took to the yard with tools in hand.

First I came across this beautiful black 1998, it had tinted windows, I have to say, it looked real nice with those tinted windows. After some investigation I found the rear hatch speaker cover was intact, you can bet I unscrewed that bad boy and put it in the toolbox along with one intact side marker light. Another unique thing I saw about this truck was the lack of sunroofs, though they weren't there, the cutouts where they would have been were still there, pretty cool.

Second, my buddy spotted a teal blue 1994, with the 3.9 in it. This truck was nearly drivable, it had all four wheels and underneath the excess the interior didn't look half bad. I looked in the back and for the first time got to see the badass jump seats I had heard of, they were sweet. But eventually I came to the conclusion these would be too hard to dismantle and install in my 1998, plus the yard would've charged me outrageously I would assume. But I walked away from that one with another orange side marker light and window CPU.

Thirdly, I came across an Alpine White 1998 chilling in the corner under some weeds. This one was the most dismantled of the trio, with hardly any interior and sitting on the axles, sunroofs open. Off of this one I managed to grab a small pump-type-thing to go on my wiper fluid line along with a red back bumper lens cover. Also, another window CPU.

As soon as I got home I went straight to my Disco and installed the "new" merchandise. The speaker cover looks great (though this enabled me to realize my back subs are blown), new lens and bulb (enabling my back bumper lights to now work again), side marker light, and fixed the linking joint in the wiper fluid line. But I must say the greatest accomplishment was the long-due replacing of the window CPU. After lots of cursing and pulling, we finally got the old CPU out and quickly installed the new one, seamless! Just as lots of write-ups have said it was indeed the window CPU preventing by back two windows from going down, I can now check that off of my list!

So, anybody else willing to share any sweet junkyard stories? I just thought I'd share my success today, for now, I'm ahead! Along with today, earlier this week I fixed the radio! Now, to find those headlight washer covers...

I used to work at a auto dismantler...you better believe i would get first dibs on any parts that i needed. I was the only one working there that had a Rover. Found many cool parts...door weather stripping, window lift ecu, headlights, fog light switches, axles, etc. I still have the pass side rear jump seat waiting for install..and yes..it can be a pain as the torx bolts are in a hard to reach area by the wheel tub.

Do not throw away your old window ECU. Unplug the board and reflow the solder joints. If you do not want to do that mail it to me and I will do it for you free of charge.

Got my Disco 1 about 6 months ago. Several yards have provided the following:

Radiator (had plugged oil cooler section - ended up rodding original one out)
Fan cowl removable section
Fan & viscous clutch (verified bad clutch idea - upgraded to "Chevy" clutch)
ECU & IAC (high idle would not go away and would not re-learn)
MFU (interior lights always on)
Cruise amp (have yet to install)
back windows controller module (next on the list)
rear door lock (could not unlock with key from outside)
rear door wiper motor
two seats (both passenger, works fine for driver's side)
2 condenser fans
front caliper
steering stabilizer (mine had been removed by PO)
lug nuts (eventually all mune will match)
front grille (had to spray paint lower painted edge to gloss black)
hood blanket (from Disco 2 - it can be drilled to work)

Seeing the trucks in various states of dismantle is educational, and gave me the confidence to do more work on mine, you could see where things went togther, etc.

They had a 96 disco at pull a part close to me it had been pretty much picked clean looked like it was tag teamed....but I did get that drivers side window regulator that I needed....still might go back for the rear bumper covers....they looked a lot better than mine but like I tell my wife functionality before beauty... I don't think they get these very often.
