Would like to turn discovery into an off road machine
I have decide to start building my 97 discovery primarily for off roaring now that I have it running well. I am defiantly not new to the wheeling secne but I am fairly new to land rovers. The first thing I would like to tackle is a lift. I have read a lot of good things about terrafirma. I do plan on adding a front bumper and winch eventually so I am assuming the hd springs would be the route to go? I also cannot decide on how much lift to go with. I've aways been really satisfied with 33's and 34's on my jeeps. Is it worth the extra work to fit 33's vs 32's?
I do not want to have to upgrade everything to fit a specific tire size unless it'll make a huge difference on the trails.

Read this.

Watch this.
Trail Issue 4x4 Land Rover Stock Off Road Test
Do your mods one at a time, add your 2" lift, then your bumper's and winch then see what else you need.
But most of all just learn how to drive offroad correctly, you already have the bast 4x4xfar.

And keep in mind that's a 5-speed in the video, which takes more skill than an automatic on the same trail.
I've had quite a few people tell me they were surprised in my 95's ability off-road with only 7.50x16 (32" OD) and 2" lift.
Some people install 3" lifts in Discos with no issues, others have to spend a lot of extra money to get it to drive right on the road.

Well, it really depends the type of areas you off-road.
If I were you I'd fit a winch, get some recovery gear and take it out otherwise stock to places you want to go and see how it does. Then you'll know what you need to do.
edit - corrected typo
