I need to replace those worn out sway bar bushings on my disco. They make a clunking sound when I'm driving on some rough city streets. I only have one question: Do I need to jack up the vehicle to replace them?

 

You need to crawl under the truck and check all your bushings and tie rods, at your mileage, then order and replace as necessary. A floor jack would sure help.

 

All the other bushings seem ok. Just the sway bar bushings (the ones that mount the bar to the chassis) are quite worn.

 

Jacking up the end would be helpful, but not necessary. I changed mine without much trouble, jacking it up just gives you a little more room to work. They were really tight getting in, and getting the strap back over the new ones, but just ignore that. I found that if I got the strap mostly in place, then got one of the bolts in good, I was able to wiggle it a bit to make sure it was in line and put the other bolt back in. Took me maybe an hour, but I was in no hurry.

 

Member Fish EH made quick disconnects and had new bushings with them included. He may have/make them for you. Hopefully he will chime in...

 

I did this job in about 20 minuts. No need to jack up. Bring plenty of paper towels because it is a greasy mess (especially the fronts) and be prepared to replace with grade 8 hardware.

 

I sold all the kits I had made. I don't really plan in making any more. All the parts can be had easily enough though. RovahFarm has the bushings. The rest of the hardware van be found at your local hardware store.

 

That wont be a problem...The local farm supply is a good source for new hardware.

 

Do I need to replace the sway bars also? the dealer recommended to do that. Although the bushings are the ones that need to be changed.

 

If you have a lift lose the bars the front hits the drive shaft offroading and the rear links can invert and jamb forward causing issues I had these happen, the ride is better without them when lifted IMO I was very resistant to everyone saying remove em then gave in and glad I did
