When I first got mine, I started having red fluid dripping from the front driver's side wheel well. I kept looking for a power steering leak, but it was always full. Finally one day, I crawled under the front with the engine running and saw a fine stream spraying from a pinhole in the tranny cooler line that goes to the towel bar cooler in front of the radiator. It only leaked with the engine running.

IMHO the extended drain interval of syn allows the owners to become green-eyed back sliders on everything else that should be done. Syn has its virtues, but you will find plenty of million mile Volvos and Mercedes diesels that never saw a drop of anything other than dino juice. No matter how "good" the oil is, it still gets dirty and needs to be changed along with filter to remove that floating "sand paper". There are probably owners on this forum that have always used syn, but do they have 400K miles?

Square engines live. My moms 1987 240 DL has more than 500K same motor and tranny.

I had an 87 240DL that I traded my 280ZX in on. The VOLVO was incredible.
164 cubic inch in line 4 cylinder 132 BHP Smallest engine in any car I ever had, but absolutely amazing. Faster than my 280ZX was. I told people it sounded like a high tech sewing machine. 40MPH from each gear if you nailed it from a standing start and held it. My neighbor was impressed when we went down I95 and it shifted into 4th gear at over 100mph when iI eased off the gas.
We would cruise all day at any speed we wanted to. Did the same in the Z, but the Volvo would get right up there and go like a bat out of hell. The only thing I have had since that was even better was the Benz 420 SEL AND THE 928.
The Volvo was amazing since it was only a 4 cylinder.

They were eliminated to save weight and it was determined that in the US they never go offroad anyway so heat was not a issue.
We have 3 row radiators, DII's have 2 row and no engine oil cooler but a better trans cooler.
Thats why the DII uses a colder t-stat too, smaller radiator.
