Mine is getting sticky. I have to find the sweet spot to get it turn. Graphite? Wd-40? Silicone? I'd rather not change this any time soon.

Shift, the ignition switch issue is new to me - never had it on any vehicle before. However, I am certain any lubrication will assist the barrel to more easily slip onto the sweet spot. That means the lubricating agent should go around the barrel and not necessarily into the key slot?

I'd prefer a dry lubricant like graphite powder to anything that attracts dust.

My first thought was Graphite. I just didn't want to anger the very temperamental Lucas gods and use a spray that may lead to spontaneous combustion of the left rear tire.

As I understand it's the pins that creates the sticky feeling in a lock cylinder. Either not lining up w the holes or getting stuck in the pin cylinders. I could definitely be wrong.

If not there is a good chance the brass pieces are starting to stick out preventing the key from turning unless you hit the right spot.

I recently had to replace my ignition switch. So that I could use the truck while I procured another switch, I pulled the switch cylinder mechanism and allowed the switch itself to dangle below the steering wheel. A screwdriver, the end of the key, or anything that would fit into that slot would start/stop the truck. The only thing missing was the steering column lock and the transmission lock out solenoid.

Locksmith told me that the factory keys are steel and wear out the tumbler. Advised me to use brass copies.
